So skydiving is something I have always wanted to do. Now when I tell people this, the reaction is normally somewhere between: “Why would you want to jump out of a perfectly working plane?” to “ That sounds great! Let’s do it!” You may even be looking at me sideways now, wondering what is wrong with me. HAHA
So, what is my fascination with skydiving? I think it is the idea of just jumping. It is the excitement of feeling the air and wind around you. It is the idea of just being free, letting go, and trusting.
Stepping out on faith also seems like skydiving. Stepping out in faith requires leaving our comfort zone, and attempting something that we may have never done before. It may even require us to do something that not only we have never done before, but no one has ever done before. Think about Peter. The disciples were in the boat, in the middle of the storm. They look out and see someone, who they perceive as a ghost coming towards them. Naturally, they are afraid. Jesus, recognizing their fears, told them not to be afraid. Peter simply said “Lord, if it is really You, tell me to come.” Jesus told him to come, and Peter got out the boat and began to walk on the water.
Peter did what no one else had done, or has done, even to this day. Peter got out of the comfort of the boat, and walked on water to Jesus. The boat was what Peter and the others knew. They were in the boat, their vessel of comfort. Peter heard the voice of Jesus telling him to come, and he did. He got out the boat and walked on the water.
Faith will cause us to move out of our comfort zone. Faith will cause us to do like Peter, and get out the boat and walk on water. Faith will cause us to leave our family, and everything we know, and like Abraham, go to a place that God will show us. Faith, will give us the courage to, like Noah, build an ark for the rain, that has not yet appeared. Faith will cause us to do what we think is impossible for we know that With God, all things are possible.
So, if you are struggling with “the next” be like the Nike slogan, and “Just do it!” For there is safety in His Will. There is security in His Hands. We know that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Jump out the plane in faith, and let Him guide you. And like the tandem skydivers connected to us, God will always be with us.l Jump out the plane, and fly!
